PROJECTS
Role
Front End Engineer
Responsibilities
- Build web application to help manage Badgers community — a group that uses a badge-earning system to encourage members to do fun, unique activities.
- Use React, Sass, Firebase and Heroku to build and deploy the project
- Conduct research with Badgers users through UX survey
- Collaborate with a UX/UI designer and another developer
- Presented first iteration of the application to a group of 15 and tracked feedback and feature requests
Synopsis
The Badgers are a club based in Portland, OR that consider themselves an adult scout troop. Their motto: Do Cool Shit. Badgers members compete amongst each other to complete fun, challenging and often times adventurous activities. When a member completes an activity and provides the proof, they are awarded a badge. Up until now, the founder has maintained and operated this club by bearing the cost of materials and time. Our team, consisting of a designer and one other developer, is helping the founder automate some of these tasks and scale her group by building a web platform for members to search badges and add them to a personal profile. We recently deployed the first iteration of this project and presented to their group. It was a hit! Click the eye below to see the live version on Heroku.

Role
Front End Developer
Responsibilities
- Built structure/architecture for the project using EmberJS
- Deeply collaborated with UX and UI designers to implement their designs
- Connected site to Firebase database and successfully saved and stored user data
- Implemented Google Maps API that retrieves location stored in database — currently there is a bug that prevents the map from showing.
Synopsis
pARTicipate won Epicodus' Design Week — Best Overall Project. The goal of the project was to get people outside in their communities, so we created a project that does just that. pARTicipate allows users to host public art installations in their community where they define the number of participants they want involved. Users can join the projects they want to help and donate funds to the cause. If we kept expanding on the idea, we would allow users to take walking tours of their city's most popular public art pieces. Although this project was design-based, we took it one step further and built a mock-up using EmberJS that allows people to get a feel for what the mobile site might look and feel like.

Front End Developer
Responsibilities
- Built site that allows users to enter a keyword and generate a list of how-to and life hack videos with a low view-count using EmberJS framework and Youtube’s API
- Worked closely with UX and UI designer to build their designs
- Allowed users to authenticate the site through Google/Twitter
- Created a favorites service that alllows user to bookmark videos they want to see again
Synopsis
Lousy Lifehacks was inspired by Youhole.tv, which randomly generates low view-count Youtube videos. Using EmberJS and the Youtube API, our team built this project that allows users to search a keyword or keyphrase and the site returns low view-count "How-To" videos. This site is for the amusement of those who want to watch lousy lifehackers impart their wisdom.

Role
Designer
Responsibilities
- Redesigned many of Genius’ pages to enhance user experience and provide features to bring more users to the page
- Developed user personas that drove design ideas
- Implemented atomic design principles
- Redesigned logo to better reflect their audience
- Drew high fidelity wireframes using Sketch
- Built prototypes using InVision
- Thoroughly documented all design ideas and developed a case study — coming to my site soon!
Synopsis
I was inspired to redesign one of my favorite sites, Genius, which allows users to dive deep into the lyrics of their favorite artists. Some of the design changes included altering the color palette, redesigning the landing page, bringing their music genre page up to speed with the current design, and adding several new features to the lyric page. These were all design changes meant to drive more conversions from visitors and provide more robust features for the core users. The case study documenting my ideas and the thought process behind my designs is complete and will be uploaded soon!
